Improved connections and land management across the whole landscape

The WWLP seeks to create a network of ecological connections across a more natural landscape that allows wildlife to thrive and move freely around, with a special focus on enhancements for rare species such as wood white butterflies and barbastelle bats which use woodland rides, wood rews, river corridors, hedgerows, field margins and wetland areas. This approach supports the conservation of characteristic species of special sites as well as the diversity of the wider countryside, helping to create an environment better able to cope with adverse impacts and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
The involvement of farmers and landowners is crucial to realising this aim, thus we actively support sympathetic land management by private landowners through free farm visits, provision of tailored advice and habitat creation works (e.g. new hedgerow planting), and support to Environmental Stewardship and Woodland Grant Scheme funding applications.
